The way the wind imprints curved lines and leaves impressions of repeated patterns on the sea shores.

Light beaming through translucent curved kelp.

Beautiful boulders and the intricate detail on their massive shapes. The negative space between and around them. The hues of stained watermarks and the history they hold.

The ocean. She is vast and powerful. The wonder and mystery that lives beneath the surface of the sea.

Our moon. So far away yet still affecting each wave we watch.

Collections. A mass of shells and sea glass establishing their own unique image contrasted with the detail of a single fragile shell and her stories.

Flocks of birds, against the never ever ending blues.

I love walking and not where I end up but the places my imagination travels.

Watching flowers and plants change over the seasons, unraveling leaves and butterfly wings.

I have noticed I am most drawn to the colour of what is around me. On close observation I begin to seek the way it exists in its own environment.

Junichiro Tanizaki captured this elegantly in his own words.

“ We find beauty not in the thing itself but in the patterns of shadows, the light and the darkness, that one thing against another creates.”

I would love to share my experiences with you, and let them inspire you too.

I sometimes take my sketchbook with me, but the elements don’t always allow for that. I usually return to my studio and start writing and drawing, using photographs and memory. I create colour combinations that were significant and shapes that were fascinating. Playing with these ideas helps to layer images and create unique compositions.
